Following are some commonly asked questions about coaching, how it works, and what you can achieve working with a coach. If you have other questions or need more information, please contact Lori.
Why hire a coach?
Once used only by top athletes, top executives, and Hollywood’s A-list, coaching is now a service everyday people are signing up for. Most of us benefit from objective encouragement and guidance when trying to make the changes we want to make. Working with a coach delivers the results clients are looking for. When you want to get your health and life in shape, you hire a personal coach.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching and therapy approach a client’s past differently. Therapy focuses on healing the past by gaining a sense of understanding in order to bring closure to emotional wounds created from troubling events, past behaviors, or attitudes. Coaching looks at how your past impacts you today. Coaching moves you “off the couch” and into action by focusing on the present and moving you forward by maximizing your natural gifts and talents.
How does coaching work?
Coaching is typically conducted 2 times a month and takes place over the phone or in person. Sessions last 45 minutes to an hour depending on what you need. Each session is driven by the issues and goals you bring to work on. To keep you moving forward, I will assign some work to be done before the next session. E-mail support and spot calls are available between sessions.
Why do you offer spot calls and e-mail support between sessions?
My job is to support you so you will be successful reaching your goals. Staying connected is an important part of that process. Sometimes a friendly voice and some motivating conversation and direction can mean the difference between staying in the game or dropping the ball. The time between sessions is a long time if you are struggling and this extra support provides a solution for you.
What about privacy and confidentiality?
Creating a safe and private space is at the very heart of our coaching relationship. As your coach, I take confidentiality very seriously. Trust is crucial. I will never share what is discussed in your session or disclose you are a client unless I have your prior approval. As a member of the International Coach Federation, I adhere to the ethical guidelines they have set forth.
What can I expect from coaching?
Coaching helps you explore your personal, relationship, and health goals and provides you with the tools you need to achieve them. Through the use of powerful, thought provoking questions and exercises, you will discover new possibilities as you trade in your outdated, self-limiting beliefs for new and expansive ways of thinking and being. Each session is supportive, nonjudgmental, and focused solely on you and your agenda.
Who hires a coach?
All kinds of people hire coaches for all sorts of reasons. The common thread clients share is the yearning for things to be different. Some clients want to work on a specific goal while others are seeking change in many areas of their life. As a society we are constantly juggling the desire to live a satisfying life while fulfilling our commitments to ourselves, careers, families, and relationships. Often our health and well-being suffers. Those who are ready – to gain clarity and direction AND be held accountable to make the necessary changes – hire a coach. How do I choose a coach?
The most successful relationships include trust and compatibility and the relationship between coach and client is no different. It’s also important to work with a coach who is certified through an accredited program to ensure their training meets the rigorous standards of the profession.
